Hi… My name is Alifia Bharmal and I am a Speech-Language Pathologist from Mumbai (India).

I am an ISHA (Indian Speech and Hearing Association) and RCI (Rehab Council of India) registered therapist. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Audiology & Speech Language Pathology from Topiwala National Medical College and B.Y.L Nair Charitable Hospital, Mumbai.

I received my Masters Degree in Audiology & Speech Language Pathology from Bharthi Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Pune. I have also earned my degree in Personal Counselling Based on Humanistic Psychotherapy (Client Centered Therapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) and Indian Sign Language Interpreting. I am an International Board Certified Cognitive Specialist ( IBCCS) and also an LSVTLOUD Certified Clinician.

  • My Work Experience
    • Working at the Speech Dysphagia Language Clinic, a private based clinic in Mumbai which covers neo-natal, school age, adult and geriatric populations.
    • Development of a rehabilitation based app for Individuals With Parkinsons.
    • Working with children with epilepsy and neurological disorders at the Epilepsy Foundation.
    • An honorary consultant at Asha Dan Missionaries of Charity, and Chesire Home India, where I focused on children with Cerebral Palsy and other paediatric musculo-skelatal and neurological problems.

    My cases ranged from muscular dystrophy, movement disorders, post operative care, stroke, etc. In 2015, I was awarded the Gandhi Scholarship at the Indian Federation of Neuro-rehabilitation (IFNR).

  • My Publications
    • “A comparative investigation of neurological soft signs in persons with stuttering” (3rd prize at Bharti Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Pune).
    • “An investigation of the speech and language deficits in children with epilepsy with and without cognitive deficits” (presented at IFNR 2014).
    • During my masters degree, my research interest was in the area of speech dysfluency. I completed my thesis on ‘A Comparative Investigation of the speech associated attitude of Preschoolers and Kindergarten children who do and do not stutter.
